Quiet and centrally located, the Central Sunset is a great choice for families and those who prefer a laid-back neighborhood with a slightly suburban feel. Mainly comprised of well-maintained single-family homes, the Central Sunset is close to several popular outdoor attractions, including Golden Gate Park, whose plentiful hiking and jogging trails, grassy picnic spots, lakes, and museums provide ample recreation. Residents also flock to the Sunset Recreation Center, which offers sports and fitness facilities for both children and adults, as well as the park just outside the Sunset Reservoir, a perfect spot for walking dogs or watching the sun go down.

The neighborhood’s two main commercial hubs are Irving Street from 19th to 24th Avenues, and Noriega Street from 19th to 27th Avenues and 30th to 33rd Avenues. Both areas are lined with mom-and-pop grocery stores, bookshops, bars, and restaurants with a local flavor. The Central Sunset is also well served by numerous MUNI bus routes and two MUNI Metro lines, the L-Taraval and the N-Judah, both of which run on trolley tracks along those streets. ©2016 Maryann LoRusso
