Anza Vista is a lively, family-friendly neighborhood that sits on a hill near the University of San Francisco. The homes here are mostly stylish mid-century properties, with some Victorians and Edwardians thrown into the mix, and many houses have the added appeal of ample parking and backyards. This is a great area for families, with the Jewish Community Center (JCC) offering an indoor pool, community events, kids’ classes, and even a preschool, and the nearby Hamilton Recreation Center and Kimbell Playground providing sports fields and other child-friendly amenities.
For additional outdoor recreation, residents head to Alamo Square, which boasts a large, grassy area and pretty views of the “Painted Ladies,” a block of beautifully restored Victorian homes that survived the 1906 earthquake and fire, or to Golden Gate Park, the city’s largest outdoor oasis. For everyday needs, Laurel Village shopping center is home to several restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, mom-and-pop stores and specialty boutiques. City Center, home to a City Target and other big chains, as well as the restaurants and shops of NOPA are also nearby, while convenient public transportation makes the neighborhood great for commuters. ©2016 Maryann LoRusso
